Energy Minister Saurabh Patel has said that the state government led by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has taken a number of decisions in the interest of consumers to ensure that consumers in the state get electricity at cheaper rates and the burden of power generation costs is not borne by consumers. As a result, more than 1.30 crore customers in the state will get relief benefits of Rs 310 crore. The Energy Minister added that in addition to the energy charge, fuel surcharge is levied on the electricity bill from the electricity consumers.
Fuel surcharge was levied at Rs 2.06 per unit during the previous quarter, i.e. from January 2020 to March 2020, as against Rs 1.90 per unit during the April 2020 to June 2020 quarter. Thus, the fuel surcharge has been reduced by 16 paise per unit in this quarter as compared to the previous quarter. Due to this reduction, power consumers will get a relief of Rs 310 crore.
6He added that the main reason for the reduction in fuel surcharge was that during this quarter, the state government has purchased gas at cheaper rates in the interest of consumers and produced gas-based electricity which has reduced the cost of power generation.
